Bastiano 2-Seater Sofa by Tobia Scarpa for Gavina, Italy, 1960s

In the 1960s, Dino Gavina gathered the most well-known artists around him and faithfully implemented their designs in the best quality. Tobia Scarpa was the son of GAVINA director Carlo Scarpa and the BASTIANO is one of his most famous seating designs for GAVINA. Due to the condition through decades of use, we are offering our copy at a special price, although it is still structurally fully suitable. with new cushions and leather covers and exposed tropical wood in the frame, it can become a true noble classic!

Signs of wear. Our 2-seater Bastiano sofa was used a lot. The cushions in the seat and the light blue covers no longer appear to be original. The beautiful structure of the wooden frame made us curious. Under the satin black surface is a heavily grained, very reddish tropical wood, similar to rosewood, which has been heavily veneered and can actually be exposed again. The straight surfaces of the wooden construction are screwed together, the spiral springs in the seat padding are completely intact. Only the covers show stronger signs of wear such as stains, some wax, fading and wear and tear in the area of the armrests.
