Vintage Design
Vintage Shaker-style ladder back chair by Danish cabinetmaker in the 1960s. The chairs is made from cherrywood and the seat woven saddle leather straps with a beautiful patina. The shaker American Shaker movement has an important place in the story of Danish Modern furniture in the second half of the 20th century. There are obvious links between the shaker chairs and the style and form of chairs designed by Kaare Klint, Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen and others in the 1940s-1960s. They all openly admired the honesty and modesty of the Shaker chairs: they were straightforward and what decoration there was derived from the form and from the joinery and the techniques of the assembly. This chair bears strong resemblance to Kaare Klints “Church chair” among other chairs from the period.
