A very pleasant modernist oil street scene composition, painted by the established Swedish artist Stig Wernheden (1921-1997), whose works have been represented at public collections in Sweden including the Moderna Museet, Malmö Museum, Snuff & Match Museum, Ystad Art Museum and Malmö City Hall.

The painting features a scenic and charming city surrounded by lush greenery. In the foreground, a group of figures are depicted on a pathway walking towards the city.

Painted with a modernist ethos, the artist reconstructed the buildings into flat blocks of contrasting colours to create a sense of space and depth.

The painting evokes a soothing and relaxing quality, brought through the use of soft and precise brushstrokes, as well as a gentle palette of predominant cool light tones.

This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited wood frame with an inner silver window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
